Schema markup is a code that lets search engine understand the content found on a website, allowing it to better represent it in the search results.

You’ve all seen rich snippets in Google, right? Well, it’s schema that helps to power rich snippets, which has seen higher clickthrough rates when compared to regular search results. As you can guess, that’ means more traffic to your site than through regular search results.

Ultimately though, the main function of schema markup is so search engines will be able to better understand your content.
