According to Google My Business’s updated help documentation, short names are being phased out and will no longer be available to GMB users. The original purpose of short names was to help businesses make their GMB profiles more accessible to potential customers or clients.
What is Google My Business Short Names?
A short name is a customized name that you can add to your GMB profile that allows users to find your listing easier. These short names can be up to 32 characters long, but has to be unique compared to other short names. Once your HVAC site had a short name, you’d be able to use the website address “g.page/shortname”, which would drive traffic to your Google My Business listing.
For now, if you are currently using short names in your campaigns, then you’ll be safe. But there might be a time when those will eventually not work, so it’s a good idea to keep a heads up with the news.
